“Slow Dance”

SLOW DANCE  -Anonymous author
Have you ever watched kids
On a merry-go-round?
Or listened to the rain
Slapping on the ground?
Ever followed a butterfly’s erratic flight?
Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?
You better slow down.
Don’t dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won’t last.

Do you run through each day
On the fly?
When you ask “How are you?”
Do you hear the reply?
When the day is done
Do you lie in your bed
With the next hundred chores
Running through your head?
You’d better slow down
Don’t dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won’t last.

Ever told your child,
We’ll do it tomorrow?
And in your haste,
Not see his sorrow?
Ever lost touch,
Let a good friendship die
Cause you never had time
To call and say “Hi”?
You’d better slow down.
Don’t dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won’t last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere
You miss half the fun of getting there.
When you worry and hurry through your day,
It is like an unopened gift….
Thrown away.
Life is not a race.
Do take it slower
Hear the music
Before the song is over.

This really spoke to my heart, I can be very guilty of going too fast. Even when our family is getting ready to go somewhere fun, I will rush, rush, rush and get frustrated that people aren’t getting ready fast enough! Some of the fun is taken away from our trip, because the preparation for the event was horrible.

I have noticed when I slow down, not worry about getting there right away and allow everyone to take as long as they need…we have a much better time in general. Everything can be enjoyable, from waking up on the day of the exciting activity to talking about it days later.

Our lives are short, slow down. Give your spouse a kiss, crazy dance with your children, give your pet a hug.

Psalm 90:12So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

Isaiah 40:6-8 6The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field:  7The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass. 8The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

1 Peter 1:24-25 24For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: 25But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.
